RESEARCH: HOW? - THE CAMPAIGN

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TASK 1: Prints and Advertising
Here you can take part in an area of the distribution process of a film. You are asked to identify the film's hooks, which are attributes that would draw the audience and tell them that they will enjoy the film. As well as this, you are asked to write down who you would believe the target audience is, who the film is expected to draw in and engage. Final you explain the kind of release you would give the film, this means the budget, whether it goes to the cinema, DVD, streaming platforms, etc.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
TASK 2: Poster Analysis
In the poster analysis, you are presented with a poster, the poster I was shown was the poster of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The website allows you to fill in text boxes and draw lines, meaning you can show what you are referring to. The boxes each have a topic for you to explain their importance in making this poster effective. These topics include Image, Colour, Composition, Light and Text.

TASK 3: Types of Trailers

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
TASK 4: Trailer Anlaysis

The first trailer(Pride Prejudice and Zombies) subverts the audience expectation, with the joyful calm music and also the fact that it is based off a Jane Austin book. However, it takes a much more sinister turn, is matched with a threatening audio sting. The trailer then shows a montage of high octane action. This would engage other audience members, how are more interested in action movies. Although having two halves of trailer stark in contrast may be ineffective as the first half of the trailer may cause those would be interested in the second half, to lose interest.

On trailer 3 (In the Heart of the sea) sound is used to generate importance within the film. As the end of the trailer gets closer, the music swells more and more building to the climax. This puts pressure on the audience to go and see the film to find out what happens. There are multiple hooks that can be seen from looking at the trailer, such as the main selling point being the film is based on a well-known book (Moby Dick), as well as this it features an established cast with actors like Chris Hemsworth, Tom Holland and Cillian Murphy. The Trailer uses many of the well-known trailer conventions, such as: Highlighting the best bits, the stars are showcased, conversations only take up one line, the trailer builds to climax and Music is used to create the atmosphere.

Trailer 4 (The 33) engages the audience by presenting characters along with calm and upbeat music, presenting them as good people with families. Something the audience can relate with. The Music then changes to booming snars and bass kicks, this is to used to present the mountain as the main threat to the characters. This shows the audience what struggles the characters will have to overcome. The Music changes once again to show the families reaction to the disaster. This shows the audience how the film will be structured, it will show the perspectives the families of the miners trying to free them, and also the miners trapped.

TASK 5: The Trailer Maker

On the FDA website, there is an application called the trailer maker. In which you can create a trailer for a film using clips from its official trailer. I was given the clips from the film Suffragette, a film depicting the inequalities women faced in 1912.
